There are many different groups and societies that people belong to today. But the greatest society that anyone can belong to is the Church. It is the greatest society on earth because it alone carries the endorsement of God in the Scriptures. The head of the church is Jesus Christ. The church belongs to Him - He is its founder, its sustainer and protector and its only Lord. It is the only society that will survive the end of this present world and that be will be part of the new order that Jesus will bring when he returns.
Today, as we receive new members into our church family, and as we participate in one of the precious expressions of our belonging - by meeting together around the Table of the Lord, we want to remind ourselves once again what belonging to the church involves and what it looks like.
