So far in our studies in James we have learned that real faith is tested, real faith is about more than listening, and real faith is about applying what we have heard to real life.
At the end of chapter 1, James has given us a couple of examples of what this looks like in practice.
Now at the beginning of chapter 2, James shows us that faith and favouritism are incompatible for the follower of Jesus Christ.
Opening:
As we come to worship we join in the words of 'Come People of the Risen King'.
Message Points:
- Favouritism Contradicts God’s Choice
- Favouritism Contradicts God’s Law
- Favouritism Contradicts God’s Mercy
Questions For Application:
- Have you been guilty of showing favouritism in some way? How? How will you use the gospel to change your heart?
- Are you in any way obeying the Law in one way as an excuse for ignoring God’s commands in a different area of life?
- Reflect on God’s mercy to you in Jesus Christ. Is there anyone to whom you need to extend that same quality of mercy today?
Closing:
As we conclude let’s use the song 'May the Mind of Christ My Saviour'.
